What is Assistive Technology?

Educators, parents and students operate within a school environment that is laden with a variety of terms, expectations and methods of attaining academic success. In order to provide clarity to the purpose of this blog, readers must be able to define, identify with and perceive themselves implementing the use of assistive technology in the school environment.

Assistive Technology consists of two parts; devices and services.

Assistive Technology is defined as the following;

Devices- any item, piece of equipment, or product system...modified or customized, that is used to create, maintain, or improve functional capabilities of a child with a disability

Services- any service that directly assists a child with a disability in the selection, acquisition, or use of an assistive technology device

  1. Including the definition of terms for the average individual with no educational background is a way to reach more readers. Using the bold and underlined text was helpful to highlight important concepts that should be noted. Your blog is appealing to a variety of learners already!
